Start your engines… the My Carolina Today crew has joined ChevyMom.com.

We’re just like most moms these days, up at the crack of dawn, packing lunch boxes, double checking homework, inhaling breakfast and loading up kids for the morning drop off at school. Then, it’s off to work.

Valonda, Page and I host a fun lifestyle show on NBC 17 called My Carolina Today. We share with our viewers all the wonderful things about living in North Carolina. From showing you the latest in fashion to cooking to weekend getaways to what’s happening in our community, the girls and I have a great time highlighting the positive stories right here in our back yard.

We also feel it’s important to give a voice to non-profit organizations that are doing good work for the people of central North Carolina. The first one I’d like to tell you about in our blog is the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. During the next few months, you’ll be seeing lots of bald people walking around the Triangle area. Many of them are what the St. Baldrick’s Foundation calls “shavees.” These volunteers have had their heads shaved bald to show solidarity to children with cancer; they’re also raising crucial funds for St. Baldrick’s, the world’s largest volunteer organization that funds pediatric cancer research. Most people don’t know that in the United States more children die from cancer than any other disease. The only way to find better treatments and cures for childhood cancer is through research. Research takes money and bright doctors who are willing to dedicate their efforts to helping these children fight the battle of their lives.
How can you help? Come on out to one of the largest St. Baldrick’s head shaving events in the country on March 5th at the Hibernian Restaurant and Pub in downtown Raleigh. I’ll be emceeing part of the day’s festivities. And no, you don’t have to shave your head. You can just stop by and support the cause with a donation or go to www.StBaldricks.org.

Here’s to happy hauling, all you Chevy Moms. It’s time to head back to the carpool line after school and then off to karate.

Diaper Drop off Sites

Drop any brand or size diapers off to Sir Walter Chevy in Raleigh, Country Connection in Garner, The Legends at Preston Apt. Community in Morrisville, Smith Exterminating by the fairgrounds, Pupsi Dog Training in Cary, Keystone Chiropractic in Raleigh.

I NEED DIAPERS!

1 in 3 mothers can’t afford to diaper their babies.
Food assistance programs focus solely on food and do not cover diapers.
Babies kept in dirty diapers for extended periods of time may lead to babies suffering not just physically but emotionally.

**Any diaper brand and any size will be accepted. The diapers must be new, unopened packages.**

Diapers will benefit Durham/Orange Counties Urban Ministries, Welcome Baby and the Good Samaritan Inn.

Drop your diapers off at Sir Walter Chevrolet anytime. The final drop off day will be Friday, November 12 at Sir Walter from 8am to 9am. QDR’s Chevy Mom, Janie Carothers will be there to help collect and deliver the diapers. Sir Walter Chevrolet is located on Glenwood Avenue between Crabtree Valley Mall and 540.

Stuff the Traverse!

1 in 3 American families can’t afford to diaper their babies. As a new mom for the second time, when I read that statistic, it broke my heart. Diapers are such a basic need for babies. So, I’m starting a diaper drive and my AWESOME friends at Sir Walter Chevy are helping me with the cause! We are going to start stuffing the Traverses and see how many we can fill with diapers! So go to Target, Costco, wherever, and pick up a pack of new, unopened diapers in any size or brand!!! Let’s do our part to put a diaper on “every little bottom”. Go to everylittlebottom.com for more details. More info to come on when and where you can drop off your diapers.

Pumpkin Farm

We took Claire to the Pumpkin Farm in Bunn yesterday. We spent some one on one time with her. She doesn’t get as much of that now that her little brother has arrived! We were waiting for our hay ride to begin. We waited and waited for almost an hour! Try explaining to a bunch of 3 year olds why they can’t get on the trailer when it’s parked right in front of them! But the later it got, I realized I was gonna have to go pump in the car! (I’m nursing the new baby) Ok, maybe that’s T.M.I. for you, but it’s reality! So, I headed off to the parking lot and climbed into the back of the Traverse. I had the back seat folded down with the stroller and a box back there, so I had to sit on it while it was folded down. I set up my little pumping station and was good to go! I had plenty of room in the back even with the seat folded down. Granted, it would have been more comfortable if the seat had been up, but it was fine! Jay had to head to work straight from the farm, so he changed clothes in the back, too! LOL! Hey, you do what you’ve got to do, right?
